Book Review of “The Silkworm” by Robert Galbraith, Under Pen Name of J.K Rowling ~ Extended

With the reasonable amount of Suspense and the Unveiling of the Identity of the real culprit at the end of the book, I would state this book as one of J.K. Rowling’s good works. This novel isn’t actually a reminiscent of the great detective stories of “Sherlock Holmes” by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, but you have quite a feel of the Sherlock Holmes story in this novel.

I am also sure that the author was under constant pressure of the fact that her work might resemble to some of the earlier detective characters and the stories published in the past, which is apparent in the book.

Having said that I don’t mean that J.K Rowling’s has matched the expertise of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Although, I am very young but I also believe that it would have been better if J.K Rowling could have added some more scientific nuances to her work. Her pedantic missed the knowledge of modern science, innovation and dexterity.

I think the novel was quite straight and even Scotland Yard could have solved the mystery and there was no need of private detective.Still I would rate the book 4/5 as it was good to read.

I love the way in which all the mysteries are solved in this story and I even felt frightened at times. Although, Cormoran Strike is the protagonist of story but I liked the description of Robin’s character more than the Cormoran Strike.

I found this book, more of a family drama than a detective mystery with lots of break – ups – and – make – ups. It seems the book was written keeping in mind the possible story for a Hollywood movie. Although, I have a lot of awe and veneration for J.K. Rowling but I think the novel lacked the crisp, the turns, the out of the box ending and a pristine premise, perhaps I had great expectations from J.K.Rowlings after reading the Harry Potter series.

I think character of Cormoran Strike (the protagonist) lacked perspicacious, Rowling mentions very little about his ingenuity and that is what is so different in many other detective novel protagonists. If we see, such as in Sir Conan Doyle’s novel how he describes the mental alertness of Holmes’ and many incidences such as’ Holmes with his eyes closed could judge about his surroundings, his observation and his sharp senses are strong points of Conan Doyle’s writing. That is the ingenious of Sir Conan Doyle, that makes Sherlock Holmes(which was written more than a century back) the best detective novel till date.

The reason for my describing the book quite straight forward was because I had an idea even in the middle of the book who could be the murderer. So, I didn’t quite need to brainstorm. But I am sure that J.K. Rowling would cover these aspects and would surprise us all in her next novel of the “Cormoran Strike” series. Would love to read the next Cormoran Strike Novel in the row.
